For the community

You might be wondering about this place with the funny door and what we do here.

The Mother Jones Center for Resilient Community, aka “the MoJo,” is the Headquarters for HoH-Share, Inc.

We are a non-profit organization that uses creative and non-institutionalized ways to meet the needs of the poor and marginalized people in the community.

Making spaces of warmth and welcome, the Mother Jones Center for Resilient Community (aka the MoJo) gathers people from all walks of life around the same table, to create beautiful art while building bridges between those who might never have otherwise had the opportunity to get to know one another.

A growing community art center in the heart of East Wheeling, the MoJo is a dedicated safe place that aims to maintain an atmosphere that fosters healing, supports recovery and grows resilience through creativity, education, compassionate play, and meaningful relationships. ACEs, poverty, and other trauma-related issues affecting people in the community can be acknowledged and addressed here.

Regular weekly activities keep the MoJo hopping, ranging from Life Skills to Youth Art Classes, Chess Clinic, and Toast & Amp; Jam Music Nights. Workshops include stained glass, mosaics, sewing, printmaking, woodworking, paper mache, and so much more! Community art-making events and various workshops are scheduled throughout the calendar year.

When bringing people to the MoJo is not possible, the MoJo goes out into the community to connect with people.

MoJo on the Go-Go takes art-making supplies to create art in the community. Chess Clinic visits some of the public housing locations. MoJo staff and volunteers recently participated in “Be Love” by delivering care packages to residents of a local high-rise. These outreaches have made inroads connecting to people in meaningful ways.

Several HoH-Share projects, including Art-Share, The Fun-Raiser Urban Mobile Playground, The Bill Hogan Community Gallery, Trash Talkers, Mustard Seed Mountain Street Paper, UpLIFT WV, Street MOMs, and the MoJo Gift Shop also based at the MoJo.
